We also know that an ill-fitted suit can actually have quite the opposite effect and we definitely know the importance of tailoring a suit to fit you perfectly. Regardless of how perfectly your suit fits you, there are some simple, yet specific, key points to keep in mind while wearing your suit to make sure you’re wearing it right.

Wear your pants high!

Tailored pants are designed to fit you perfectly and if you end up wearing them lower than they are meant to be worn, the result is a poor fitted pair of trousers that look sloppy and long. Wear your pants up high and make sure not more than an inch of your ankle or socks are visible under the trousers.

To button or not to button?

A common question when it comes to wearing a suit is whether you should button up the suit or not. Remember this- Always leave the top button buttoned and the bottom one unbuttoned for a two-button suit. When you take a seat, always unbutton your blazer so that it doesn’t look like you are uncomfortable in your blazer. 

How much cuff is too much cuff?

Last but not the least- make sure your shirt cuff shows below your suit. But how much cuff is too much cuff? Well, a general rule of thumb is a 1/4″ to 1/2″. Anything more makes it seem like your blazer sleeve is too short.

Summer is all about lightweight pants, dresses, and skirts which are essential for a sophisticated work look. You don’t have to wear a blazer all the time in the heat, but it’d be nice to keep them around for an impromptu meeting that may find its way into your schedule. Christmas won’t be Christmas without its fully decorated tree and its dazzling ornaments, just as a suit is incomplete without its accessories. You may find it challenging to pair the right accessories with your suit, but once you’ve mastered that art, it’s pretty simple!
Obviously, a suit comes with a lot of accessories, but let’s keep this simple. 

Ties and bow ties

The first accessory that comes to mind when mentioning a suit are ties and bows- the most basic accessory that allows one to express his individuality without contradicting the traditional looks of suits. Many things should be considered while choosing a tie or bowtie- the colour, pattern, if it matches your shirt, jacket or any other accessory that you have on like the pocket square and more. 
For a solid shirt with a classic suit, feel free to experiment with bold colours and patterns. Own your style by finding the tie that makes you feel smart and confident. The unsaid rules while using patterned ties are to not directly match your tie to your suit pattern. Pay attention to the size of the pattern as well. Make sure that your combinations are well balanced. In case you would like to add a tie bar to level up your look, be sure to place it between the 3rd and 4th button of your shirt. 

Pocket squares

Whenever possible, don’t match your pocket square directly with your tie. Choosing a subordinate colour from your outfit is the key to picking a pocket square that ties into your outfit or a colour that complements the tie or has a small element that matches your tie. Despite being a simple accessory, a pocket square is one of the most versatile suit accessories available. A flat fold is quite conservative and can be used if you are at a more formal event. Your jacket will appear more striking as a result. When it comes to casual wear, you can opt for a more dashing fold. You can discover a whole new way to fold a pocket square if you experiment with it!

Cuff links

You might be acquainted with this term if you know what a double cuff or a French cuff is. With the original purpose of preventing your cuff from falling apart, cuff links have now become a style statement among the elite and adds a level of class to your look. You could go for symbols that are close to your heart, but keep them small and discreet for formal events but you can go for some fun and quirky cufflinks for your fun, social events.

Lapel pins

Lapel pins are gaining popularity more than ever before. A simple accessory that adds a fun element to your suit and speaks volumes about your personality. From simple flowers and bows to trending symbols and icons, there is no limit to how much you can experiment with lapel pins.

Watches

Watches will never go out of style, even at a point where it’s no longer required functionally thanks to smartphones. It truly is a statement piece and nothing completes a look like a watch. A watch reflects ones personality and there may not be any hard and fast rules in styling them, but when pairing with a suit, you may need to keep some points on mind. Keep the dial face minimal, a solid color may be white or black dial with leather straps with minimal texture and preferably no design to go with your suit. Avoiding bulky watches, unless you have thick wrists. Sporty, metal straps can be kept aside for casual events and keep the leather straps for the formal function. Select a watch which reflects your personality, and most definitely, avoid using digital watches to formal functions.

All About Cuts

Suits have evolved so much since the first time it made an entrance that it’s become difficult to choose the right style and fit for each person. The idea of one style fits all, as magical as it sounds, is hardly ever true but fear not, because we’ve got your back.
Understanding these styles better will help you understand what style suits you best.
 
Even though there are a sea of suit styles to choose from, the OG cuts are American, British and Italian.

 

The American Cut

Going as far back as the 19th Century, the American cut is formal yet classy and is easily distinguished from the other cuts. Straight silhouettes and a comparatively looser fit is a signature grade of this cut, normally designed with flap pockets and is typically single vented. With extra space around the waist, the American cut is more comfortable than the other cuts. And if that’s not enough, the reinvention of this OG cut includes improvements like classic flap straight pockets, natural shoulders and better single breasted options. 

The British Cut

The British Cut, although a slim fit, provides the ease your body needs. With its heavy cloth, structured shoulders and stiff canvas, the British cut sticks closer to the body giving off a slimmer look than the American style. The front of the British coat is often adorned with a ticket pocket, while the back is distinguished by a double vent and a tapered waist.
 

The Italian Cut

If there’s one thing the Italian style stands out for, it’s the extra slim, sleek silhouette with low padded, unstructured shoulders and high gorge lines, making this suit an exceptional cut. Made from light materials, this suit features sculpted shoulders and body. Most traditional Italian cuts do not have a vent and have two buttons for a seemingly elongated torso. 
 

Lapel Styles

A mainstay on single breasted jackets, and arguably the most common lapel, the notch lapel is defined by a visible indent at the point where the collar meets the lapel.
The peak lapel is a stylish upgrade to the notch lapel has its top edges facing upwards at sharp angles immediately below the collar and is most commonly found on double breasted suits, thereby a frequent player at formal events. While not as extravagant as the shawl collar, this lapel emanates  sophistication and high- end style.
The shawl lapel has a smooth uninterrupted lining and  is more or less exclusively found on formal wear like tuxedos and fancy dinner jackets. The aesthetic is a timeless sense of class and distinction.
Lapels depend on the proportion of width of the lapel to the shoulder size. The wider the shoulder, the wider the lapel should be.
