Women and Workwear

Work culture has changed so much over the years that nowadays, most offices and work spaces are not too rigid on their workwear rules and in some offices other than big corporates, formals aren’t even expected anymore. That being said, it should come as no surprise that dressing up for work in formals definitely adds confidence and earns respect and trust at work. You are taken more seriously when you dress for the part and when you can absolutely slay some formal wear looks, why wouldn’t you choose to dress up to work? We know it can be a challenge to dress for business so we’re here to inspire you with some outfit ideas for your work.

Should you go for business casuals or formals?

Business casuals and formals are significantly different from each other. Once you know the difference between the two, it gets easy to choose and dress accordingly. Business casuals are a little more relaxed and comfort-oriented style without compromising on the formal look intended for work. Formal outfits on the other hand are more conventional and are typically reserved for more sophisticated and professional occasions like professional client meetings or boardroom meetings. The main idea to dress up for any formal occasion is not just to look sharp, but to feel confident and comfortable.
For a more casual occasion at work, you could pair your pants with a semi-formal jacket and a basic top so it doesn’t steal the focus from your jacket, or you could spring all the attention onto your top with interesting prints and design details, pairing it up with a classic pair of pants. In any case, try not to be too loud with colour combinations. For formal wear, simple and minimal is the way to get a clean, crisp look. Our favourite is a slim-fit navy suit paired with white shirts and heels. With regard to accessories, make sure to choose minimal jewellery and a sleek monochromatic handbag. And remember, the same suit will look completely different when worn with a different coloured shirt or top, so repeat your suits by styling it differently each time.

Is it too early for a business cocktail dress?

Business cocktail dresses are usually meant for work events past office time. Business cocktail dresses are a perfect balance between formal and dressy and are elegant yet comfortable. A unique pattern with a good cut paired up with minimalistic jewellery should do the trick. Accessorising the outfit with a clutch and a good pair of party shoes can complete this sophisticated look.  And if you don’t feel like wearing a dress, a slim suit can be an option to keep it light and chic when paired with a classy top rather than a collared shirt. Unlike typical formal wear dresses for work, business cocktail dresses can be of a little more relaxed material and style.

Summer time suits

Summers can get very hot in our tropical country and we, of course, want work clothes to be comfortable. How else can we be productive at work? Nailing a summer business outfit may seem tiring with all the layers that formal clothing usually comes with, but it’s possible. Summer is all about lightweight pants, dresses, and skirts which are essential for a sophisticated work look. You don’t have to wear a blazer all the time in the heat, but it’d be nice to keep them around for an impromptu meeting that may find its way into your schedule. When it comes to footwear, you may find it tempting to wear open toe shoes, but it’s always best to stick to close toe shoes, as they are more appropriate for office wear.

Winter and workwear

We all love layers, don’t we? And that makes it easier to dress in formals for winter. Make little tweaks in your formal wardrobe by changing your collared shirt to a turtle neck sweater and opting for heeled boots and oxfords instead of your regular work pumps. Bring out the thick, heavy materials for suits and dresses alike from behind your wardrobe.
Regardless of the occasion, work wear is always fun to style and experiment with. Formals aren’t just basic stripes and solids in greys and blues anymore. Women are spoilt for choice when it comes to formal suits, business casual or formal dresses and skirts.
Slay it at work and stay motivated, folks! And don’t forget to let your style be spoken.
